Questions & Answers

1What are Metis Seagrass eco surfaces?
Metis Seagrass eco surfaces are environmentally friendly and are made from the dried leaves of seagrass Posidonia oceanica. They are created - partly manually- with the use of natural raw material and biological binders. They are applied on HPL (High Pressure Laminate) support backings.
2What are the applications for Metis Seagrass eco surfaces?
Metis Seagrass eco surfaces are designed for indoor applications such as wall coverings, veneer for furniture, kitchen cabinets, partitions, door surface and many more.

Metis Seagrass eco surfaces although have resistance to moisture, are not recommended to be applied in wet rooms for the time being.
3Metis Seagrass eco surfaces can be customised?
Metis Seagrass eco surfaces could be customised.

We can create unique surfaces that are customised to the needs of architects and designers. For further information contact us: [email protected] .
4What is the size and the thickness of the surfaces?
The thickness of Metis Seagrass eco surfaces is variable between 2-3mm.

The standard thickness of HPL support backings is 0,9mm and the Seagrass coating thickness is between 1.1-2.1mm.

The maximum size for the surfaces is 1500 x 1000mm (1.5m2). Smaller tile size pieces could be cut for more customisable patterned results.

5Is every surface exactly the same?
Metis Seagrass eco surfaces are made from natural raw material and we have a partly manual manufacturing process, therefore every surface is unique. So, they may occur differences in colour, texture and finish. As a natural fiber material it tends to change its hue and ages like all natural beautiful materials like wood.
6Can I get Metis Seagrass eco surfaces samples?
We will gladly provide you with Metis Seagrass eco surfaces samples. Please contact us: [email protected] .
7How can I order and what is the delivery time for Metis Seagrass eco surfaces?
For order, pricing and delivery, please contact us at [email protected] .
8How do I store the surfaces?
We recommend to be stored in closed and dried rooms in flat position.
9How can Metis Seagrass surfaces be cleaned?
Surfaces can be cleaned with non-abrasive cloth using water and soap.

Abrasive cleaning agents (e.g. abrasive power), detergents, thinners and other chemicals must not be used.
10What fire protection class do the products reach?
For fire safety reasons, we can use standard flame-retardant HPL of 1mm thickness according to EN 13501. Fire tests are in preparation.
11What is the product life expectancy of Metis Seagrass eco surfaces?
Within normal climatic conditions the product life expectancy of our Metis Seagrass eco surfaces is comparable with the one of a wood chipboard. Surfaces are subject to a natural aging process, e.g. through UV light. The binders that we use have a UV protection but for higher UV protection, we recommend the use of additional lightstability agents.
12May varnishing protect the surfaces from scratches?
For increased protection against moisture and scratches the surface can be treated with water based eco varnishes. We recommend ADLER Aqua-Resist. Preliminary tests on samples are always recommended.
13How should the surfaces be processed?
Metis Seagrass surfaces can be processed like normal laminate HPL.

Handling of Metis Seagrass surfaces require increased attention and processing must only be done by qualified personal that is experienced with sensitive and high quality materials.

During the processing of surfaces dust is produced which - together with other organic parts - may cause irritations to eyes, respiratory system and skin.

Workplaces have to be ventilated. We recommend the use of suitable breathing masks and protective gloves (due to sharp edges of surfaces).
14Are there any pressing guidelines?
Metis Seagrass surfaces raw materials are graded and handled carefully. But it is possible that in very few cases small thin branches, very small stones and other foreign parts could be contained since it is a natural hand assembled surface.

If the surfaces will be bond with another support board the pressing temperature should not exceed 60°C (140°F).

Use teflon fabric as a release agent to contact surfaces, so that the surface will not be damaged.

After pressing let the sheet cool down to room temperature before removing the teflon fabric and performing further operations.

Metis Seagrass eco surfaces consist of natural material that swells and shrinks due to changing humidity. For a certain balanced board set-up we recommend the usage of the same surface on both sides of the board to avoid distortion.

Metis Seagrass eco surfaces can be bonded on massive walls or metallic surfaces just as any normal HPL.
